American Society of Women Accountants / Accounting & Finance Women's Alliance

ASWA was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. The national ASWA organization officially changed their name to the Accounting & Finance Women's Alliance, AFWA, in January 2013, and they are currently rebranding the organization.

Members include partners in national, regional and local CPA firms, financial officers, controllers, academicians, financial analysts and data processing consultants, recent college graduates and women returning to the work force. The majority of our members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP. The mission of ASWA is to enable women in all accounting and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.

AFWA in Memphis

The Memphis Chapter of the Accounting & Finance Women's Alliance was originally chartered in 1968 and became inactive in August 2002; however, we reactivated our chapter in 2009. We have approximately 60 members, and we aim to provide our members with opportunities to learn about accounting topics and issues, network with other Memphis professionals, and give back to our community.

Monthly Meetings

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for November and December. We typically meet for lunch from 11:30-12:30.
